NTSE which is called National Talent Search Examination. It is all India National level entrance exam conducted by NCERT each year. This exam provides a scholarship for students who studying in 10th class. This exam has 2 main stages. The exam of stage 1 is conducted in different states and union territories level. Only those students are eligible to sit in exams who pass the exam of Stage 1. Whereas stage 2 in a national level exam which is conducted by (NCERT) National Council of Educational Research and Training.
Scholarships for NTSE exam
NTSE provides more than 1000 scholarships in each stage of education for students. For class 11th to the 12th scholarship of Rs. 1250 per month is being provided. For the students of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarship of Rs.2000 per month. The amount of the Ph.D. is fixed according to some norms. The total marks of general category for students are 40%. Whereas for SC, ST and PH 32% marks are reserved.
Eligibility criteria for NTSE exam
- Students which are below the age of 18 years old are allowed to sit in this exam.
- Students of previously employed are not basically allowed to sit in NTSE exam.
- The students of open learning distance are also eligible for this exam.
- The students of the 10th class are also eligible to write the paper of NTSE.
Exam pattern of NTSE exam
The exam pattern of both stages of NTSE is same. Stage 1 and stage 2 both have objective type of questions answers for the student. Here we discuss the exam pattern of stage 1 and stage 2:

Marking scheme of NTSE exam
The marking scheme of NTSE both stages are different from each other. In stage 1 1 mark will be awarded to the student for each correct answer. No negative marks will be deducted from the wrong answer to the question. Whereas in stage 2 one third of the mark will be deducted on the wrong answer of the question. If any question is left or unattempted by the student, then there is no negative marking for the question in paper.
NTSE stage 1 subjects
The stage1 of NTSE exam is based on 3 major subjects Scholastic Aptitude Test, mental ability test, and language test. Each stage has its own marking criteria. Here we discuss the flow of the paper in detail.
Scholastic Aptitude TestThe paper of scholastic aptitude Test has total 40 questions, 20 for the Mathematics paper and 40 for Science paper. Maximum marks of this paper are 100 and the given time of this subject paper is 90 minutes. The scholastic Test includes the questions from the section of math, science, geography, history, and politics.
Mental Ability testThe paper of Mental ability has total 50 questions. Maximum marks of this paper are 50 with the given time of this subject paper is 45 minutes.
Language testThe paper of language test has 50 questions related to the language. Maximum marks of this exam are 50 with the time limit of 45 minutes. The language test contains the questions from the fill in the blanks, comprehension and synonyms and antonyms.
NTSE stage 2 subjects
Only those students are eligible to sit in NTSE stage 2 who passed out the exam of NTSE stage1. Total marks of this paper are 200 here we discuss the flow of the paper in detail.
Scholastic Aptitude TestThe scholastic aptitude test has 40 questions total 20 for mathematics and 40 for the science subject. The total marks of this paper are 100 and the given time of this paper is 120 minutes.
Mental Ability TestThe Mental Ability Test of NTSE stage 2 has total 100 questions related to the mental ability. The maximum marks of this paper are 100 with given time of 120 minutes.
